Nasir Jones took some time out of his day to write an open letter to the kids in Chicago who took part in the brutal gang fight that robbed the world of 16-year-old Derrion Albert last Thursday. Nas grew up in North America's largest project: the Queensbridge Houses in New York, and he's no stranger to senseless violence, gang warfare and tragedy.
Be sure to check out his letter cause the violence in Chicago (and the rest of North America) has got to stop. Kids shouldn't be getting killed on their lunch break.

I hate to say it, but the only reason this issue got so much attention is because it was caught on tape and the murder was just violent enough for the footage to be shown on TV. Also, news sites like Drudge Report tastelessly posted the video as proof that the city of Chicago is not a proper place for the 2016 Olympics.
Despite my commentary on the cautiously morbid nature of the mainstream media, I hope that Mr. Albert's senseless murder will rally people around the cause of non-violence and urban renewal.
It's truly tragic because Mr. Albert was just trying to help and ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
